I come from the land of milk and honey.
We also have drought, earthquakes, flash flooding, hail, lightning, heat waves, and tornadoes.
Lots of tornadoes.
And I love it.
They say that home is where the heart is, but I’ve never been quite sure how the heart decides where it wants to stay. I can tell you all the wonderful things about my home state; about smelling fresh rain when the thunderstorms hit and witnessing the indomitable power of hope, friendship, optimism, and love when a tornado comes, but that wouldn’t inspire you to move.
You see, I’ve learned that there is beauty in everything, if we take the time to see it. As cliché as that might sound, it really is true. The problem is that we are often biased against the beauty in one place, due to our loyalty to another.
So, as I set out on this new adventure, I make this pledge.
I will not compare, I will not judge.
I will not make assumptions.
Although I will never be anything but an Okie, I want to view each new place as if it were home.
Maybe, just maybe, I’ll find a way to take home with me.
